Saying Goodbye – And What to Expect

Our service provides a peaceful goodbye to your beloved pet in the comfort of your own home. This can be done at a location of your choice. A favorite spot for your pet, a place that they will be most comfortable with. This can be in the house, on a porch, in the yard – or wherever you decide is the best location. Please let us know if there are any special requests before we come. We can send a text message ahead of time before ringing the bell or knocking at the door if this will eliminate any anxiety for your pet.

If your veterinarian has provided pain relief or anti anxiety medication, you may want to give that an or hour or two before the doctor arrives. This will help keep your pet calm and relaxed. The doctor will administer an initial injection which will cause sedation which will also keep the process stress free. This will allow your pet to fall asleep comfortably over a 5-10 minute period. We recommend feeding any treats or showing your pet any toys they appreciate during the injection, as this works well as a distraction.

The doctor will then administer a second injection which will either be given in a leg or internally. This will depend on intravenous access. This can vary due to the age of your pet or illness they are dealing with. The length of time for the second injection will depend on the route that is used. If you have chosen cremation with Forever Meadows, we will bring a stretcher to transport your pet to our vehicle. We may require assistance with the transport from a family member if the pet is over 30 pounds. We will handle your pet with care as if they were our own. Offering a stress free visit for you and your pet when it is needed most, is of utmost importance and our overall goal for the visit. Please contact us with questions so we can help the process go smoothly.
